Why Raptors Need Space in Nesting Season

The climbing experience is full of breathless moments of wonder, but few are quite as magical as looking up to see a soaring raptor overhead. As climbers, we share the same vertical environments as these spectacular birds of prey. And while we're used to seeing signs indicating closures due to cliff nesting raptors, many climbers aren't familiar with why these birds (many of which are endangered) need space during the breeding season.
Information about seasonal raptor closures is widely communicated and publicized in the climbing community by land managers, your local climbing organization, in guidebooks, and on Mountain Project. Learn about seasonal raptor closures at your local crags and road trip destinations before you head out, and climb somewhere else until the closure is lifted.
